Deer hunters reminded of
South Texas fever tick quarantine
Texas
State officials are reminding hunters and meat processors in South Texas that
additional precautions are required when handling deer carcasses due to
concerns about spread of fever ticks in the region. The general deer hunting
season opens Nov. 1. Deer harvested on infested, exposed, adjacent and check
premises must be inspected, treated and permitted prior to being removed from
the premises. more
USDA approves four additional visual identification tags for use
in the National Animal Identification System
The U.S.
Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service
(APHIS) approved several new visual identification tags Wednesday: three
individual animal identification 840 tags from Destron Fearing/Digital Angel,
where 840 represents the U.S. country code, and one premises identification tag
from Allflex. In USDA's National Animal Identification System (NAIS),
identification tags and devices are used to provide a greater level of animal
traceability in the event of an animal disease outbreak. more
Meeting slated to
implement Arroyo Colorado improvement plan
The
steering committee of the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Partnership will meet Oct.
23 in Weslaco to continue its efforts to implement a watershed protection plan,
one of the first completed plans in the state. The meeting, which is open to
the public, will be from 5-7 p.m. in the Rio Red classroom at the Texas
A&M-Kingsville Citrus Center, 312 N. International Blvd. more
