USDA and DOE release national biofuels action plan
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Ed Schafer and Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Samuel W. Bodman released the National Biofuels Action Plan (NBAP) Tuesday, an interagency plan detailing the collaborative efforts of Federal agencies to accelerate the development of a sustainable biofuels industry. more
 

Fertilizer stock bubble pops on phosphate pricing fears
The bubble has burst for fertilizer and agricultural chemical stocks, with former stock-market star Mosaic Co. (MOS) off by a third in Thursday trading and others hard on its heels as excess supply and reduced demand slow the pattern of price increases on farm chemicals. more
 

USDA issues $1.8 billion in Conservation Reserve Program rental payments
Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer Oct. 1 announced that USDA will distribute $1.8 billion in Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) rental payments to participants across the country for fiscal year 2009. Producers holding about 766,000 contracts on 430,000 farms will receive an average of $50.93 per acre. The payments allow producers enrolled in the program to earn an average of $4,105 per farm. more
 

Farm bill seminar scheduled Oct. 16 in Corpus Christi
Coastal Bend producers can learn about the new farm bill at a meeting Oct. 16 at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Corpus Christi. Other topics will include developing carbon markets and business planning. The afternoon session will be a market update and strategy session on grains, cotton and oilseed. The seminar is free , open to the public and is sponsored by AgriLife Extension. more
 

TDA Market Recap Oct. 6, 2008
For the week ending Oct. 4, feeder cattle price trends at Texas auctions were mostly lower by $3 to $10 per hundredweight. Fed cattle cash prices were $2.50 lower. Pastures are in mostly good to fair condition. more
